See, this doesn’t sound so bad:
But then stuff like this happens:
Gamers rejoice! League is still around and it’s still free.
If you don’t play League of Legends, here’s the deal: you should. If you haven’t read our MANY, MANY posts about the game (directly or indirectly) the summary is that DRR players take this game pretty seriously and get a lot of enjoyment out of it. And, honestly, that’s exactly as it should be.
League is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA). It’s not a very common type of video game, but it’s a fun one. In the typical League of Legends match you are assigned to a team of five; you pick a role and cover a certain area of the battlefield on Summoner’s Rift, a large battlefield with three lanes, a jungle in the middle, and a number of strategic objectives scattered throughout.
Gameplay varies from lane to lane: the bottom lane (bot) is normally filled by an ADC (Attack Damage Carry, better referred to as a Marksman) and a Support, the middle lane (mid) is covered by a Mage/APC, and the top lane (top) is covered by a tank or offtank fighter. Jungle is typically manned by a fighter/offtank or another similar champion, especially those with good sustain.
These roles are quite different and those who play League usually have a preferred role. Fred tends to play ADC; I am a former Support who now tends to Jungle, and Rose is a former ADC who now mans top lane. It’s not hard to learn multiple roles, it just requires the memory to switch back and forth between styles and general strategies.
League is a very team-oriented game – it’s online, of course, and requires intuition and communication about your teammates’ actions. You simply can’t 1v5 the other team (unless you’re Dr. Mundo, maybe) – the whole point of the game is strategic positioning, trades, and “smart” gameplay. With a huge multitude of items to build and an even bigger champion pool to pick from, every game is a new challenge to figure out. You’re never playing the same game twice. NEVER. And that’s what really makes League so special.
(And yes, you read that right – Rose plays League. And she’s pretty good. Get on her level, n00bz.)
As always, thanks for reading!
