Today was the first day of Penn’s second semester; we started with a Monday schedule on a Wednesday (quite odd) which meant that I started at 9am with MATH-114 (Calc II) recitation. Our TA ran us through some practice problems from Calc I and started trying to learn our names. Honestly, it was a very easy and relaxed first day, which is good because I wasn’t really ready for heavy-duty calc just yet. The TA for the class kept using Yiddish words, which was kind of cool, and he has a good sense of humor. I’m glad that that class, despite normally being a Monday 9am hell-bringer, will probably be pretty fun.
The rest of the day continued pretty similarly. I went to History of Ancient Rome (ANCH-027) at noon; my professor was terrific. He’s a lot more engaging/interactive than my professor for Ancient Greece, which is quite different (he actually calls on people, which is a bit weird since my professor from last semester really never did that and instead stuck to her lecture). It should be an awesome experience, though, since he was very funny and lively in today’s lecture.
Screenwriting Workshop, my last class, was from 2-5PM. Despite this, it practically flew by. The professor is fantastic, and it turns out that she and her husband have a summer home near Puedelag. The class is mostly made up of older students than most of my classes – there are lots of Seniors, some Juniors, and then a couple students around my year. Class was awesome – we all introduced ourselves and then started piecing together a group character and story for an example of creating a story. This week’s homework? Read the screenplay for Rocky and watch it, along with writing a general outline of our story. Significantly less work than expected!
Anyway, the first day is now over, and after tomorrow I don’t have class until Tuesday (I have no Friday classes and MLK Day is a day off)! As always, thanks for reading.
