So, somehow I managed to survive three weeks of limited air conditioning in my dorm, six weeks of living alone in Korea, and eight weeks of not seeing Selena. I CAN’T BELIEVE I’M GOING HOME IN A COUPLE OF DAYS.
Korea’s been a blast, and I’m really thankful for the opportunity I was given to study the language here and immerse myself in Korean culture (and act like a college student who could legally drink… but you’ve heard enough about that). Initially, I was skeptical about how much I could learn in such a short period of time, given my failed attempts at learning Korean in the past, but I’m really happy that I managed to take away some genuine knowledge—and yes, that includes the ability to utilize both Korean taxis and the Seoul metropolitan subway system. Today was my last day of class, and I was actually pretty bummed out that I would be leaving for the States so soon. I know I didn’t do much socializing here, and I could usually be found in my room playing League and whining to my girlfriend about how long it would be until we could spend time together, but there are somethings about Shinchon that I’ll really miss.
Well, except for this one 노래방 we hit up tonight:
Literally, I want to punch the person who decorated this room.
Over the weekend, I’ll probably just be doing a bunch of packing and laundry and other silly things, like finding a vacuum to clean up my floor, wtf. And then I have to close my Woori bank account sometime before I leave too, which probably involves me memorizing and pronouncing “여기 영어 할 줄 아는 분 있어요?” (HEY DOES ANYBODY SPEAK ENGLISH HERE?) as best as I can. On top of that, I somehow have to manage to wake up at 6:00am on Tuesday, flag down a taxi with my giant ass blue luggage, take a $75 ride to the airport from my dorm, make my way through a bunch of airport security poop, sit through about 18 hours of travel time, make my way through a bunch of immigration poop, hope that my luggage didn’t get left behind at Narita, somehow find my dad, sit through an awkward hour-long car ride where he’ll constantly pester me to converse with him in his native tongue, AND THEN I’LL FINALLY BE ABLE TO RELAX.
…for about nine days. And then I’ll fly down to my university on the 23rd and begin my life as an actual college student.Holy crap, that still hasn’t settled in.
GROWING PAINS ASIDE, Selena and I have managed to come up with a bucket list of cute shenanigans to do before I’m shipped off down South, including, but not limited to:
- Attempt to cook dishes that are way beyond our culinary levels of expertise.
- Eat said dishes in some quasi-romantic setting.
- Snuggle like the gross lovebugs that we are.
- Spend a day in the city: something that we haven’t done since one rainy Spring weekend at the Academy.
- Hit up Mission Chinese (the ONLY Chinese restaurant that I have ever enjoyed. If you’re in the Lower East Side, you should definitely check it out!) and die from mouthgasms.
- Marathon a boatload of movies!
