So today was yet another attempt at what I have begun to refer to as the Impossible Dinner.
It is impossible because there are four of us, and we can never all make it. For one reason or another, one of us is busy whenever we try to set up this dinner. Sometimes, it’s just impossible to get in touch with one of the four (for example, this time, we couldn’t get ahold of Alice.)
Here are the four:
The unconquerable, invincible, and unarguably most awesome being in the history of the universe. Just kidding, it’s just me.
Matt, like my other two friends, is a friend from my old school, so I can really only meet up with him and the others when I’m not at the Academy (like now, while we’re still on break!). He’s a great guy and, like several of my friends, is a huge Doctor Who fan. Smart, loves adventure, and like the other two is into acting. (At least, they all used to act; not sure if they still do.)
Our greatest adventure was when we got lost in the woods with his brother and had no idea where we were. We ended up knocking down 43 trees with the help of a machete, trudging through a swamp, and breaking into the grounds of a factory to get back to his house. It was a lot of fun (especially the knocking-down-trees part) and we proved to be epic friends with a similar sense of adventure.
Alice and I used to date… somewhat awkwardly, Alice and Matt used to date before that. I suppose it isn’t REALLY awkward, but some might perceive it as such. Anyway, she’s nice, and a cool person. She goes to a private school near the Academy, but we don’t see each other much. I have a hard time keeping in touch with her, which is too bad because we used to hang out a lot back in the pre-high school days.
Alashua (also known as “Ash” among friends) and I dated a long time ago but have always been great friends and still are. I know people don’t believe that, when you say you’re good friends with an ex, but it’s really true. She swims, is more of a nerd than most would guess at first glance (big Doctor Who fan as well!), and is just a really great friend. We don’t see each other very often outside of the swim season, when I occasionally see her at meets. It’s too bad, because I really like hanging out with her and the other two.
This year (Attempt #3 so far)
We always try to go to a local pizza place and just reminisce about the good old days, but someone always bails. This time it was Alice who we failed to get in touch with, but Ash cancelled after she realized that her ride home fell through.
Anyway, Matt and I showed up, and I dragged Victor along for the ride. They got along really well (I do tend to make friends with similar kinds of people, generally, so that makes sense) and we had a great time catching up. We told Victor all about our history in our little town, brought Matt up-to-speed on how things were going at the Academy, and reviewed everyone’s dating history. (End results: I think Matt wins, since he’s currently dating someone. He also holds the title for longest relationship, possibly, though he apparently only talked to that girl three times throughout their entire relationship and all three times were to set up dates. I hold the record for shortest relationship – 23 hours – and Victor holds the record for dating a girl who lives farthest away.)
It was a lot of fun, and we all had a blast. Fun, cheap, and easy to pull off – the epitome of a great hanging out with friends. More posts to come later, but for now I am off to watch Big Bang Theory with Victor! As always, thanks for reading. ALLONS-Y in 6 days! Geronimo!
