So I was on a few planes today and on the second one there was an electrical outlet under my seat (this is cool, they’re doing this now even on domestic flights sometimes. I really really like this trend. Keep it up, America!) Well, anyway, the outlet inspired me to pull out my computer and get some writing done. I figured there was no danger of killing the battery, so why not?
Writing on the plane turned out to be a lot of fun. This was a story that, actually, I started on another plane. When I wrote it out, it was handwritten in a notebook; now I’m typing it up. Typing up stuff from pre-written notebooks is a lot of fun because a) it is usually very quick work and b) you can edit/polish/make changes as you’re doing it. The latter is what I was really happy about today: first, I added a scene where one of my favorite characters tells a story (which will be important later in the story) to his brother; second, I added a lead-in to this scene that didn’t quite make sense later in the story. Before today, there was no backstory and it wasn’t nearly awkward enough considering that one of the characters in the scene had a crush on another (also present). I redid it starting with the addition of the lead-in and now it’s plenty awkward and romantically/hormonally charged. (Vague spoiler: it involves a shower.)
We are now in VEGAS and it’s very sparkly. I’ll try to keep you guys posted with some photos. It’s really quite awesome in our pampered hotel room. I am quite comfy in this bed! I’m not sure how I’m going to get out!
Tomorrow = go to pool, explore Vegas a bit, and maybe run on the treadmill or something if I have time. It would be nice to stay in decent shape after swimming season.
It’s a weird feeling having five bars on my phone… that never happens at the Academy. I’ve been home for a few days, but it’s still a weird adjustment… the idea that my phone actually works. It’s nice, because I’m actually in Violet’s time zone now so it’s easier to text her at reasonable hours.
As always, thanks for reading, and allons-y!
P.S. Yes, have been talking to Violet quite a bit today. Didn’t hear back from Écrivaine after my last email, though. Hopefully she’ll reply tomorrow. She’s great company (as much company as one can be over email, that is.)
